Olivia Newton-John Show in Las Vegas (August 2016)

As a teenager in the 70’s the first record I ever purchased was Olivia Newton-John’s debut album. I’ve been a long time fan of the Aussie singer, and it was a thrill to see her perform in person at the Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas.
Olivia was in fine form this night, singing songs ranging from “Let Me Be There” from that debut album, to her later hits. Her voice sounded as good as ever at age 67.
We arrived early for the show and we were fortunate to get a complementary upgrade to the second row of seats! It was amazing to see Olivia singing to us from 10 feet away when she made her way to our end of the stage. In addition to Olivia’s soaring vocals, the show featured video clips of her early life and movie career, and a sing-a-long to “You’re the One that I Want” from the musical Grease.
With a plethora of R rated “adult” shows in Las Vegas, it was refreshing to attend a family oriented performance like Olivia’s. She joked about her song “Physical” getting banned in some countries when it was released in 1981 (that music video and those lyrics are relatively tame today!)
Anne says:
“Olivia was fabulous. From the personal wave and eye contact at the beginning to the heart-felt ‘I Honestly Love You’ at the end, she really made an effort to connect with the audience. Olivia was joined by two back-up singers and her band of musicians. She even had several wardrobe changes that added a special touch to each set of songs. As Tim stated we are long-time fans of her work and enjoyed the songs from the beginning and middle of her long career, but we are also fans of her more recent songs. If you are not familiar with ‘Grace and Gratitude’, it is worth checking out. We would recommend this show to any fan of Olivia. “
